Northern England
Grade 2/3 Whitewater Kayak Week

20231012_151116.jpg

This week long 'Grand Tour' is one of my favourite courses, I have been paddling these rivers for over 20 years and my local knowledge really allows us to get the most out of the week.

The Lake District and Northern Dales have a fantastic range of  rivers with countless high quality rapids that are perfect for kayakers looking to consolidate their skills on grade 2 and try their hand at a little grade 3. The aim is to paddle a different section of river each day according to the group’s wants and needs.

Dependent on conditions we should get the opportunity to paddle some of the following rivers: Lune, Eden, Leven, Kent, Tees, Swale, Esk, Eamont, Wharfe & Greta.

The emphasis for this week is on experience and guided days and whilst there certainly is no set syllabus during the week there may be the opportunity to work on the following:

  • Consolidating Core Skills

  • Equipment & Outfitting Choices

  • Whitewater Skills for Grade II/III Rivers

  • Making Tactical Choices

  • Safe Group Paddling Strategies

£399 per person

10th - 14th March 2025

FAQs

Where do we meet?

To make the best use of water and weather conditions, the exact venue will be decided day to day, this is normally a dropped pin shared in a whatsapp group chat.

How long are the days?

This is a five-day course. We’ll normally meet at 9am and aim to be off the river before 4pm

What do you provide?

Five days of expert guiding and coaching tailored to the group and with emphasis on enjoyment. This course doesn’t include equipment but I may be able to help with certain items, feel free to ask and I’ll see what I can do.

What do I need to bring?

Kayak with airbags

Paddle

Bouyancy Aid, Helmet & Spraydeck

Suitable Clothing

Packed Lunches

Personal Medication

Is this suitable for me?

This is aimed at paddlers with grade two experience looking to paddle new rivers, improve their skills & confidence and maybe try their hand at a little grade three. If you're not sure please do get in touch and we can chat, maybe there is another course that is more suitable to your needs

Where can I stay?

I recommend Penrith as a central point giving us good access to the A66 / M6 Corridors. I normally put everyone in touch beforehand to give you the option to share lifts and book somewhere communal. I’ve got a few recommendations too.

Newby Court in Newby near Penrith is a great self catering option and Kirkby Stephen Youth Hostel is also very reasonably priced.
